Civil Liberties Organisation Urges FG to Declare State of Emergency on Failed Anambra Federal Road

The Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO) has made a fervent appeal to the Federal Government, urging them to declare a state of emergency in Anambra State, particularly with regards to the dilapidated Nkwelle-Nsugbe-Umueri-Aguleri federal road.

In a statement, Mr. Vincent Ezekwueme, the Chairman of CLO in Anambra, passionately implored President Buhari, Minister of Works, Babatunde Fashola, and the Federal Emergency Roads Maintenance Agency to urgently address the deplorable state of the road.

Speaking to reporters, Ezekwueme emphasized the urgent need for Minister Fashola to personally assess the appalling condition of the road out of a sense of patriotism and goodwill towards the people.

He described the road as a source of immense suffering, hardship, and fear for the residents in the area, highlighting how the poor road conditions have further exacerbated the security challenges in Anambra and the neighbouring state of Enugu in the South-East region.

“Rather than functioning as a vital link, the road has effectively cut off the majority of our people due to its state of disrepair. It is inaccessible and utterly deplorable, leaving those in the area isolated and disconnected from vital resources and support,” he remarked.
