In a bid to address the welfare of mentally challenged individuals in Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has issued a directive for the evacuation of those living with mental health disorders from the streets of the city and its surroundings. The Governor has mandated that these individuals be relocated to psychiatric hospitals for appropriate medical attention.

Fauziyya D. Sulaiman, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Vulnerable and Needy, affirmed the Governor’s decision, citing numerous complaints received regarding the sight of individuals with mental health disorders wandering the streets, some of whom were unclothed. She emphasized that the Governor’s action was prompted by the need to address these distressing occurrences and provide necessary care and treatment.

“Multiple reports have been brought to the attention of the Governor concerning individuals living with mental health disorders who roam the streets of the city and its environs. Some of them are often unclothed and unfortunately, incidents of molestation, particularly among the female individuals, have been reported,” expressed Fauziyya D. Sulaiman.

She further stated, “Consequently, the Governor has ordered the immediate evacuation of these individuals from the streets to psychiatric hospitals, where they will receive the vital medical attention they require.”
