Enugu Correctional Service Command: 1,137 Inmates Enroll for NECO Exams

Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) has reported the successful enrollment of 1,137 inmates for the National Examination Council (NECO) external exams over the past 12 years.

Speaking to journalists in Enugu on Wednesday, Mr. Nicholas Obiako, the Comptroller of Corrections in Enugu State, disclosed this remarkable achievement.

He emphasized that 124 convicts were currently partaking in the ongoing NECO external test at the Special Study Centre located within the Enugu Custodial Centre.

Obiako proudly highlighted the commendable educational progress and inmate development across the state’s three correctional centers in Enugu, Nsukka, and Oji River.

In a statement, Obiako asserted, “The current participation of 124 inmates in the NECO exams is one of the largest figures recorded in any state across the nation.”

He continued, “For many years, our inmates have consistently achieved excellent results due to our substantial investments in their education, starting from primary and secondary school classes up to high-quality adult education programs within the centers.”

“Those who excel in their chosen fields of study will have the opportunity to seek direct admission to the university through the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), which has a study center at the Enugu Custodial Centre,” he added.
