Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to reshaping the narrative of the Police Force in the country. His goal is to actualize the force’s mandate and the collective aspiration of all its officers and personnel.
The IGP made this commitment during his visit to the Adamawa Command of the Police headquarters to express his condolences over the loss of Inspector Jacob Daniel, who tragically lost his life during an attack by military officers a few days prior.
During his visit, he also shared his vision for policing with the officers, emphasizing the significance of their support and cooperation in realising the desired transformation of the police force in Nigeria.
Adeolu Egbetokun expressed his deep appreciation for the commendable efforts and sacrifices of the Adamawa State Command. He unveiled the administration’s vision for law enforcement: to foster a professionally competent, service-oriented, rule of law compliant, and citizen-friendly police force.
“We aim to build a police force that can actively contribute to the government’s economic recovery, social integration, and development of Nigeria. It will be a force that serves the people with excellence, effectively delivers on its mandates, and is well-equipped to respond adeptly to the ever-evolving dynamics of crimes in our communities. Your cooperation and commitment are crucial in achieving this vision,” he emphasized.
“I am also here today not only to address you but to listen to you. I am keen to hear your concerns and questions, and I will provide comprehensive answers,” added the IGP.
The IGP communicated to the police officers and personnel that the present government is resolutely committed to the welfare of the police in the country.
‘’However, for us to achieve improved welfare, better equipment, increased manpower, and all necessary resources to carry out your duties effectively, it is imperative for members of the police force to exhibit good conduct, reform negative attitudes, and recognise themselves as servants of the people. This will garner unprecedented support and assistance from the populace,’’ the IGP stated.
Furthermore, the Inspector General of Police unequivocally condemned the attack by unruly soldiers on the Police headquarters in Adamawa State, which resulted in the tragic death of Inspector Jacob Daniel, who was on duty as the quota guide of the headquarters.
He likened the attack to the activities of terrorists and Boko Haram, expressing deep regret over the loss of Inspector Jacob Daniel, a commendable officer, who was esteemed for his exemplary conduct, trusted by his superiors, and steadfast in his duties.
He assured that the manner of his untimely demise has been escalated to the highest authority, and justice will prevail. Additionally, he pledged the unwavering support of the Police Force to the bereaved family.
