Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic policies, asserting that they are conducive for Foreign Direct Investments (FDI).
Mbah expressed that the unified foreign exchange rates policy is exerting a positive influence on Enugu State’s FDI drive.
The Governor shared these sentiments after a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday evening.
“While some of the Federal Government’s economic policies, such as the removal of fuel subsidy, posed immediate hardships on the citizens, they were bold remedies for the nation’s ailing economy and are expected to ultimately benefit the citizens.
“It is imperative to applaud the president because many of his initiatives at the national level are also yielding positive results at the state level – policies like the unification of the foreign exchange rate. This implies a potential influx of FDI, from which we will also benefit.”
He further reassured that Enugu State provides a secure environment for investors to bring in their capital, emphasizing the region’s readiness for investment.
Mbah confirmed that the challenges of sit-at-home orders and the associated insecurity in the southeast region of Nigeria have been effectively addressed.
Additionally, the Enugu State Government is actively pursuing the construction of the cargo terminal and the completion of the international wing of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, in collaboration with the federal government.
“As you may have also noticed, we are exerting significant efforts to attract investors to Enugu State. The harmonization of the foreign exchange rates facilitates the inflow and repatriation of foreign capital, which will greatly benefit Enugu State.
“Enugu largely serves as the capital of Igboland.
Hence, we are keen on developing our cargo terminal and ensuring the operational functionality of the international wing of our airport. Our objective is to engage with the federal government to obtain all the necessary permits and licenses, and establish an improved logistics hub to attract the requisite investments. Consequently, I have come to congratulate the president and advocate for continued collaboration.”
“The sit-at-home phenomena have ceased. We no longer observe sit-at-home orders in Enugu State, and I dare say in the South East. In our state, workers resume duties and schools are open on Mondays. Commercial and economic activities have resumed. Our current focus is erasing that dismal memory from our history.
“Therefore, we have considerably improved the security situation in the zone and in Enugu State, and we invite those interested in investing in the zone to come in. Enugu State is open for business,” Governor Mbah affirmed.
