Governor Ademola Adeleke has authorised the disbursement of a wage increase to civil servants and pensioners in Osun State as a buffer against the impact of subsidy removal.
Adeleke, through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, announced the decision in a statement made available to the media in Osogbo. He affirmed that this move is in line with his unwavering dedication to the welfare of workers and the fulfillment of a commitment to gradually introduce relief measures to alleviate the effects of subsidy removal.
“On the first day of my second year in office, I unveiled this wage award and reaffirmed our five-point agenda which has workers’ welfare as the number one priority,” stated the governor.
The approval from the governor was conveyed through a circular issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Capacity Building. The circular, signed by Sunday Fadele, a Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, specifies a N15,000 monthly wage increment for workers and N10,000 for pensioners, operational for a duration of six months starting from December.
“Following negotiation meetings and consultations with labour unions and representatives of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Governor Adeleke has sanctioned a monthly payment of N15,000 to each active worker and N10,000 to each pensioner.
“These initiatives are aimed at alleviating the hardships resulting from the removal of petroleum subsidy by the Federal Government,” the circular stated.
The governor pledged his administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers at all times, emphasizing that this government gesture is expected to motivate state workers to be more dedicated and industrious in the discharge of their duties.
