In a significant development for Niger State, Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has taken a decisive step towards the effective implementation of the Green Economy Policy. The recently signed Executive Order, known as ‘the Niger State Green Economy Initiative Order (No.3), 2023’, marks a pivotal moment for the state’s efforts towards sustainable development.
The Executive Order mandates that the Green Economy Initiative will be steered by the State Blueprint, outlining strategic pillars and key performance indicators, targets, and timelines for the transition into a green economy. It places emphasis on the production of a State-Wide Land Use and Economic Development Plan to guide investment decisions, ensuring that investments align with the green transition in a coordinated and planned manner.
Furthermore, the Order directs all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the state to strictly adhere to the initiative, with a clear warning of sanctions for any violations. This underscores the governor’s commitment to driving the state towards a sustainable and environmentally conscious path.
Governor Bago officially signed the Order before the commencement of the weekly State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at the Council Chambers, Government House, Minna. During the event, he seized the opportunity to express his appreciation to Media Practitioners for their extensive coverage of his administration, urging them to persist in their efforts.
Speaking on the significance of the Executive Order, the governor emphasized its role in guaranteeing the effective implementation of the Green Economy Policy, underscoring the importance of its implementation as non-negotiable for the state’s future.
