The Statistician-General of the Federation, Prince Adeyemi Adeniran, officially unveiled the Nigeria Flood Impact, Recovery, and Mitigation Assessment Report on Wednesday. The primary aim of the report is to evaluate the impact of the 2022 floods on Nigerian families.
During the launch ceremony, Adeniran highlighted the collaborative effort between the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in producing the survey report.
“The comprehensive report seeks to comprehensively assess and estimate the impact of the 2022 floods that devastated several parts of Nigeria. Its purpose is to furnish the government with empirical data to facilitate the implementation of necessary palliative measures and the formulation of strategies to minimize or prevent future occurrences,” he remarked.
Adeniran also emphasized that the research offers vital insights into the resilience and recovery efforts of households in the aftermath of the disaster.
The survey, as outlined by Adeniran, was conducted in six states: Anambra, Jigawa, Bayelsa, Delta, Kogi, and Nasarawa.
“The survey’s design aimed to delve into the micro-level effects experienced by households in the worst affected states, examining their incurred losses and acknowledging the challenges confronted by the affected communities,” he further explained.
