The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, NAHCON, has urged the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to upgrade navigation equipment and facilities at Hajj departure centres across the country. The call was made by the acting Chairman of NAHCON, Jalal Arabi, during a meeting with members of FAAN’s Hajj Committee, as reported by Mousa Ubandawaki, Deputy Director of Information and Publication at NAHCON.
Arabi emphasized the importance of providing essential navigational equipment and facilities at the hajj departure centres to ensure smooth transportation for the 2023 pilgrims to Saudi Arabia.
“FAAN is a key partner in the successful operation of Hajj. While there are established guidelines for hajj transportation, we need to assess the state of the various airports designated for pilgrim transportation. The committee must adhere to strict timelines due to the deadline set by Saudi Arabia for all nations to finalize their Hajj arrangements,” Arabi stated.
Addressing the delegation, Capt. Mukhtar Muye, Director of Airport Operations at FAAN, revealed that preparations for the 2024 Hajj had commenced approximately two months ago. He assured that FAAN is committed to completing the preparations ahead of the pilgrim transportation from the 16 departure airports across the country, aiming for a seamless Hajj operation.
However, Muye urged the commission to encourage Tour Operators companies to adhere to the transportation arrangements for pilgrims through international Terminals rather than the Hajj Terminal. He explained that this approach would ensure the airports generate the necessary revenue to enhance infrastructural developments.
He reiterated the commitment of FAAN to diligently execute its responsibilities, emphasizing the authority’s dedication to ensuring a smooth and problem-free experience for Nigerian Pilgrims. NAN
