Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has taken a significant step to alleviate the financial burden on civil servants and pensioners in the wake of the fuel subsidy removal. In a recent announcement, the governor’s spokesperson, Malam Olawale Rasheed, revealed that Adeleke has approved a wage award as part of his ongoing commitment to prioritising the welfare of workers and fulfilling his promise to gradually introduce palliative measures to lessen the impact of the subsidy removal.

The circular issued by the Ministry of Human Resources and Capacity Building outlines that civil servants will receive a wage award of N15,000, while pensioners will be granted N10,000. This initiative is scheduled to run for six months, commencing from the month of December.

Adeleke, articulating his dedication to the welfare of workers, stated, “On the first day of my second year in office, I unveil this wage award and reaffirm our five-point agenda which has workers’ welfare as the number one priority.”

Furthermore, the release highlights that the decision to grant this wage award was reached after extensive negotiations and consultations with the labour movement in Osun State, including representatives of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners.
