Federal Capital Territory Administration Takes Stride Towards Digitalisation

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) is making giant strides in realigning its workforce with global trends as it embraces digital transformation in governance and service delivery. This was disclosed by the Acting Director, Reform Coordination and Service Delivery, Dr. Jumai Ahmadu, during a one-day Innovation Expo and Workshop in Abuja.

Ahmadu expressed the administration’s commitment to streamlining service processes within the FCTA, ensuring that no one is left behind in this era of technological advancement. She explained that a call circular was issued to solicit innovative ideas from staff members on how to effectively and efficiently carry out their functions at minimal cost.

Furthermore, the Director of Information and Technology (ICT), FCTA, Mr. Austine Okafor, highlighted the ongoing efforts to build ICT infrastructure from the ground up. He emphasized the administration’s goal to establish internet connectivity for seamless integration across all Secretariats, Departments, and Agencies (SDAs). Okafor also revealed plans to transition from paper-based operations to a paperless system, with over 3,000 staff members undergoing basic ICT training.

Notably, the administration aims to achieve a paperless environment by December 2025, with a clear message from the Director of Human Resource Management, Mr. Akinkunmi Ogunniran, emphasizing the need for staff to become ICT compliant or risk being left behind.

One of the intriguing innovations presented at the expo was by Mr. Chris Ojenmu, an Assistant Director at the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, who proposed the deployment of smart streetlights to address various challenges within the city. Ojenmu’s concept encompasses equipping streetlights with sensors, cameras, speakers, alarm systems, and reporting mechanisms to enhance safety, security, and operational efficiency.

Another innovative concept, presented by the Head of Operational Safety and Health, Mr. Abor Abor, focuses on revolutionizing safety and health delivery within the FCT. This concept seeks to mitigate workplace accidents, incidents, and fatalities, thereby improving service delivery and potentially increasing government revenues.

The FCTA’s proactive approach towards digital transformation underscores its commitment to harnessing technology for operational enhancement and service optimization. These initiatives not only reflect the administration’s forward-thinking strategies but also signify a significant leap towards a more efficient and technology-driven public sector in the nation’s capital.
