No fewer than 26 students of the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, have faced disciplinary action for a range of offences, including academic misconduct and anti-social behaviour.

During the 127th and 128th Senate meetings, chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, on August 30 and October 4, 2023, resolutions were made to penalize the students. The affected students represent various faculties including Agriculture, Science, Engineering, Arts, Management Sciences, and Pharmacy.

The sanctions imposed included the outright expulsion of three students, indefinite suspension for a further three who failed to appear before a properly constituted panel, and the rustication of 17 others.

A statement from the Registrar regarding the suspension of the students read, “The Senate of the University of Uyo, at its 127th meeting held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, sanctioned nine erring students of the institution to deter other students from misconducts that do not portray the brand of excellence for which the University stands for.

“Also, Senate, at its 128th meeting of Wednesday, October 4, 2023, rusticated another 17 erring students and directed that the names of the affected students be punished so as to deter others from such misdemeanours.”
