The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has firmly denied the media reports claiming that two children were killed by its operatives at a secondary school in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
Ms Comfort Okomanyi, the spokesperson for the NSCDC’s FCT command, refuted the allegations, stating that the students in question are alive and currently receiving treatment at a medical facility in the FCT.
Mr. Olusola Odumosu, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, personally visited the injured pupils on Thursday, according to Okomanyi.
Contrary to the media reports, the alleged shooting incident, involving two pupils from Gwarinpa Junior Secondary School, reportedly occurred during a clash between suspected cult groups involving NSCDC personnel.
Okomanyi affirmed that the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Mr. Ahmed Audi, has inaugurated an inquiry team to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a bid to uphold transparency and accountability, Audi emphasized the NSCDC’s commitment to implementing an internal disciplinary mechanism to address any personnel found culpable in the unfortunate incident.
“The corps extends sincere apologies to the parents and guardians of the two injured students, assuring them that all expenses incurred during their treatment will be covered,” he said.
