In Nasarawa State, a palpable tension grips the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as they await the crucial ruling of the Supreme Court. This comes after the appeal court upheld the victory of the incumbent Governor, Abdullahi Sule.
The APC in the state has voiced its apprehension over the alleged plans of the PDP to orchestrate disruptive protests and sow discord in the state, unsettling the peace that has existed among the residents.
On the other hand, the PDP has accused the ruling party of being haunted by its own shadows, insinuating that the APC is attempting to stifle legitimate grievances and dissent.
Aliyu Bello, the APC state chairman, has leveled accusations against the PDP, alleging that they are stoking ethnic and religious animosity through protests designed to sow discord among the long-standing harmonious coexistence of the residents in Nasarawa State. He further alleged that the PDP has been mobilizing vulnerable supporters to partake in indecent acts, manipulating them with promises of spiritual intervention to sway the courts in their favor.
He decried, “The women lured into these deplorable acts have been induced and misled to believe that such archaic actions possess mystical powers to influence the judiciary in favour of their party. However, the invoked spiritual entities have purportedly failed them in the past, and will continue to do so in the impending Supreme Court judgment.”
The looming Supreme Court verdict has ignited a simmering political atmosphere in Nasarawa, raising concerns about the potential aftermath and the need for peaceful coexistence regardless of the outcome.
