The House of Representatives has accused the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) of concealing a substantial amount of Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), thus derelicting its fiscal obligations to the nation.
During the resumed interactive session with revenue-generating agencies in Abuja, the House of Reps Committee on Finance, led by Representative James Falake (APC-Lagos), admonished the NCAA for its lack of transparency and threatened to oust the Managing Director and other top officials from the agency.
Representative James Falake (APC-Lagos) emphatically voiced, “The NCAA’s concealment of its generated revenue, particularly its refusal to furnish the committee with requested data on the number of airline passengers, is unacceptable.”
He reassured, “We are resolute in our pursuit of this undisclosed revenue, regardless of the NCAA’s attempts to obfuscate the matter.”
Falake further added, “The persistently reported negative balance is deeply concerning. Our extensive assessment of the NCAA has equipped us with significant insights. If compelled, we will not hesitate to usher in new leadership within the agency.”
The committee unanimously decreed that failure on the part of the NCAA to produce the requested documents by December 14th would result in severe consequences, potentially leading to the removal of its top officials.
Furthermore, the committee underscored its legal authority to scrutinize the NCAA’s documents, emphasizing the imperative of compliance with requests, devoid of any futile evasion attempts.
Addressing the untamed inadequacies within the nation’s domestic airlines, Falake emphasised the dire need for comprehensive details on the methodology employed by the NCAA in collating the monthly data on airline passengers, along with the specific carriers facilitating the transportation of these passengers.
Falake also called upon the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NiMET) to furnish a thorough account of the revenue apportioned by the NCAA, contending that the mere allocation of N2 billion without proper reconciliation is insufficient.
The demand was echoed with the resounding call for the NCAA to furnish an exhaustive report elucidating the total number of passengers flown by all airlines each month, the respective airlines, and the corresponding passenger volume carried.
