Sodiq Adebisi, a 34-year-old footballer from Ogun State, tragically passed away after collapsing during a routine training session at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
The harrowing incident unfolded on a somber Saturday as Adebisi, alongside his fellow footballers, engaged in their regular training regimen. Suddenly, Adebisi fell to the ground, leaving his teammates in a state of shock and disbelief.
Without hesitation, his teammates swiftly rallied around him, endeavoring to transport him to a state hospital in Ijebu-Ode. Despite their valiant endeavors and the tireless efforts of the medical professionals, Adebisi succumbed to this unforeseen tragedy that very same day.
The heart-wrenching news was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, on Tuesday. Tragically, Adebisi’s brother, Ganiyu Adebisi, was compelled to visit the Igbeba Police Division, with the solemn task of seeking the release of his departed brother’s remains for burial.
“The brother came to report the incident at our Igbeba division. The family expressed their desire not to pursue an investigation and requested to proceed with the burial in accordance with Islamic rites,” conveyed Odutola, encapsulating the family’s profound grief and desire for a respectful farewell.
The untimely passing of Sodiq Adebisi has cast a pall over the local football community, leaving his fellow players and supporters bereft, and underlining the fragility of life, even in the pursuit of one’s passion.
