Former Big Brother Naija participant, Bamike Adenibuyan, popularly known as Bambam, has candidly shared her challenging journey through childbirth and postpartum depression.
Speaking in a recent interview with renowned media personality Chude Jideonwo, Bambam revealed that she was diagnosed with preeclampsia during her first pregnancy. She openly expressed the transformative impact pregnancy had on her body and the toll it took on her mental health.
While expressing gratitude to her husband, Teddy A, for his unwavering support during the various phases of her pregnancy, Bambam disclosed her resilience in the face of online trolling aimed at her physical transformation. She emphasized that such comments failed to grasp the depth of her experience.
“I never anticipated such significant changes in my body, but I am thankful for a supportive husband like mine. Imagine dealing with a spouse who couldn’t embrace the journey I underwent with each pregnancy,” Bambam shared candidly.
She continued, “My second pregnancy was even more of a profound shift than the first. I went from a size 8 to 14/16, from Maroon to black. I grappled with skin tags and acne breakouts. It was a shock. I battled postpartum depression. I was in disarray, struggling to comprehend the drastic transformation.”
Recounting her distress, Bambam explained, “I looked at my baby and questioned why she appeared so different. She had grey eyes that eventually turned brown. It was a bewildering sight. During her pregnancy, I had preeclampsia, and upon reaching the hospital, it was discovered that she had detached from my placenta.”
Bambam described her pregnancy as a miraculous phase, but the aftermath of childbirth led her into a whirlwind of postpartum depression. “I was tormented by incessant ‘what-if’ thoughts,” she said, shedding light on the psychological turmoil she endured.
In deftly melding her story with insightful reflections, Bambam has not only outlined the physical and emotional tribulations of motherhood but has also shone a light on the challenges of postpartum depression, offering hope and encouragement to mothers grappling with similar struggles worldwide.
