The Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has underlined the administration’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for businesses to flourish, as he inaugurated the Christmas and New Year Exhibition for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
Emphasizing the importance of showcasing Nigerian products to the world, the Governor pledged continued support for the patronage and utilization of locally made goods.
Organized by the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon Muka Ray Eyiwumi, the exhibition is situated at the premises of the Kwara State Council of Arts and Culture in Geri Alimi, Ilorin and will run for a month, commencing from December 5.
Governor AbdulRazaq highlighted the indispensable contributions of large, small, and medium-sized enterprises to the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and the economic stability of the country, necessitating support to attain the preset goals.
Affirming the administration’s high regard for fostering the growth and advancement of MSMEs, the Governor acknowledged their pivotal role in economic development.
“We have witnessed the exhibition of products being made by our people, indicating that Nigerians are up to the task. As a government, we will encourage them to contribute to the economic growth and development of the state and the country at large,” he expressed to reporters during a tour of the exhibition stands.
Encouraging Public Engagement
Represented at the event by the Commissioner for Special Duties, John Bello, the Governor urged the community, especially residents in the vicinity, to support the vendors, extolling the quality of their goods, many of which are locally produced.
“The people of Kwara State should increasingly embrace and patronize locally made products. If we all inculcate the habit of patronizing made in Nigeria products, people will be self-reliant, and our local economy will be boosted,” he urged.
He commended the Convener of the exhibition, Mukay Ray, for the laudable initiative, urging him to sustain the positive momentum.
Dignitaries including the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, Abdulqowiy Olododo, Commissioner for Environment, Shehu Ndanusa Usman, and Commissioner for Social Development, Afolashade Kemi, graced the event.
Muka Ray Eyiwumi, the convener of the program and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Culture and Tourism, described the event as a unique platform for showcasing made in Nigeria products, particularly during the yuletide season.
Expressing satisfaction with the turnout, the Governor’s aide revealed that more than 150 vendors are currently exhibiting their goods, expressing optimism for an even larger participation.
