NYSC Urges Corps Members to Prioritize Safety and Community Impact

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has issued a vital directive to corps members, emphasizing the need to prioritize safety and community impact during their service year. Mr. Kehinde Aremu-Cole, the Director of NYSC’s North West Area Office, passionately urged corps members to refrain from night travel due to the escalating security challenges across the country.

Addressing the 2023 batch ‘C’ stream ‘2’ corps members during their orientation course at the NYSC Camp in Yikpata, Kwara State, Mr. Aremu-Cole conveyed a poignant message, highlighting the devastating impact of losing a child to a preventable automobile accident during national service. His words resonated with a sobering reminder of the responsibilities that come with the privilege of serving the nation.

Furthermore, Mr. Aremu-Cole encouraged corps members to embrace their postings with optimism, emphasizing the essence of their service in uplifting their host communities. He underscored the importance of the Community Development Service (CDS), a cardinal programme of the NYSC through which corps members actively contribute to their host communities’ development throughout their service year.

In a show of unwavering support, Mr. Aremu-Cole extended an open invitation to corps members, assuring them of the office’s readiness to provide assistance whenever needed. This gesture exemplifies the NYSC’s commitment to nurturing a supportive environment for the development and empowerment of Nigerian youth during their service year.

Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa, the Kwara State NYSC Coordinator, commended Mr. Aremu-Cole’s administrative prowess and urged corps members to heed the director’s counsel, citing his influential mentorship of numerous successful youths. This accolade reflects the director’s influential role in shaping the future leaders of Nigeria.

The NYSC’s rich history serves as a testament to its role in fostering unity and national development. Established as a post-war reconstruction initiative, the scheme aims to instill the values of selfless service and promote the unity of Nigerian youths across diverse cultural and social backgrounds.

As the NYSC continues to mold the minds and hearts of the nation’s future leaders, the call for safety consciousness and community impact stands as a beacon guiding corps members through their transformative service year.
