Stanley Nwabili Determined to Secure Spot in Nigeria’s 2023 AFCON Squad

Chippa United’s standout goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabili, is eyeing a coveted spot in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. At 27, Nwabili’s impressive performances for the Chilli Boys have captured the attention of Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro.

With an impressive record of six clean sheets and 10 goals conceded in 12 league appearances this season, Nwabili’s prowess has not gone unnoticed. During a visit to Chippa United’s training ground, Peseiro engaged in discussions with the former Enyimba shot-stopper and will also be in attendance for the DStv Premiership clash between Chippa United and Golden Arrows on Saturday.

Eager to don the national colors in the upcoming tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, Nwabili expressed his aspirations to iDiski Times, stating: “I wish to get a call-up but it’s not compulsory. It’s not by my performance because everyone is doing well in different clubs; other goalkeepers have been doing well in their clubs. If you are called up to your national team, kudos to you. I wish to represent my own country. I wish to wear my country’s jersey. I wish to wear it again. I went there before and I wish to wear it again in a nice tournament. That’s my wish.”

Although Nwabili has garnered one cap at the senior level for Nigeria, his determination and unwavering commitment to representing his country at the 2023 AFCON are palpable.
