The Katsina State Police Command has successfully disrupted a kidnapping attempt along the Dutsinma-Kankara highway, resulting in the demise of three suspects. ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the command’s spokesperson, verified this development to the News Agency of Nigeria in Katsina on Sunday.
“Today, December 10, 2023, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Area Commander Dutsinma, acting on credible intelligence regarding armed robbers and kidnappers brandishing AK-47 rifles, who had laid siege to the Dutsinma-Kankara highway with the intention of abducting unsuspecting members of the public, swiftly deployed a combined team of police operatives and vigilantes to the scene,” said Sadiq-Aliyu.
Upon arrival at the scene, the suspected kidnappers engaged the operatives in a firefight. In a display of remarkable courage, the officers effectively neutralized three members of the gang. Unfortunately, a vigilante member, Masa’udu Sani, sustained a gunshot wound to his right hand during the encounter. Sani is currently receiving medical attention, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing suspects as the investigation progresses.
Commending the professionalism, collaboration, and valor of the operatives, Commissioner of Police Aliyu Abubakar-Musa urged the officers to sustain their commitment.
