In a profound shift of alliances, 18 companies have opted to sever their ties with Empower Global, a business venture established by the embattled American singer, Sean Combs, widely known as Diddy. This decisive move comes in the wake of a series of disturbing sexual assault allegations levelled against him.
The companies made their stance unequivocally clear in statements provided to Rolling Stone Magazine on Sunday, marking a pivotal moment in the ongoing saga surrounding the music mogul.
Annette Njau, the visionary force behind the luxury-bag, eyewear, and apparel company House of Takura, articulated the collective sentiment, stating, “We take the allegations against Mr. Combs seriously and find such behavior abhorrent and intolerable. We believe and support victims’ rights, even against the most powerful of people.”
Rolling Stone’s report underscores the resounding impact, revealing that a total of 18 esteemed brands have dissociated themselves from Diddy’s Empower Global, which was established in 2021. Among the disassociating companies are skincare brand Tsuri, footwear line Rebecca Allen, jewelry label Fulaba, sunscreen brand Baby Donna, and others that have chosen to draw a definitive line in the sand.
This development unfolds on the heels of a disconcerting fourth lawsuit filed against the singer by an individual identified as Jane Doe. She alleges that she was subjected to sex trafficking and gang rape in 2003, involving Diddy, Harve Pierre (a former president of Bad Boy Records), and another individual, when she was a minor of 17 years.
Notably, in November, Diddy took the decision to step down from his position as the chairman of Revolt TV, a media company he had co-founded.
The seismic reverberations from these actions reflect a decisive stance against egregious misconduct. As the spotlight intensifies on Diddy, the repercussions of these bold decisions resonate far beyond the confines of the music industry, underscoring the imperative to hold individuals accountable regardless of their stature.
