The Federal Civil Service Commission, under the leadership of Prof. Tunji Olaopa, has pledged to put an end to corrupt practices in the appointment and promotion of civil servants in Nigeria. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the 12-member board, with a strong commitment to align their actions with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu.
In a media briefing following the inauguration at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Prof. Olaopa emphasized the commission’s determination to rebrand the civil service, aiming to restore integrity and efficiency within its ranks. Expressing concern over the prevailing allegations of job racketeering, he highlighted the imperative for the commission to reclaim its historical standing as a paragon of integrity.
“The allegations of job racketeering are deeply troubling. The commission, by its very essence, is meant to epitomize integrity. The pioneers of this commission, in the golden era of the service, bestowed a great reputation upon the civil service. Therefore, I am greatly perturbed by the disturbing prevalence of corrupt practices within the commission. We are fully committed to collaborating with intelligence and security agencies to root out this menace and restore the commission’s image.”
Prof. Olaopa further articulated the board’s dedication to revitalizing the civil service, fortifying its proficiency and efficacy to enhance service delivery to the citizens. “We are resolute in modernizing and leveraging technology, reinstating professionalism, and elevating the civil service to a pivotal position that bolsters government operations. Our aim is to cultivate a culture within the commission that upholds the cherished values of the public service in all its endeavors.”
Dr. Husseini Adamu, a board member responsible for Niger and the Federal Capital Territory, corroborated the commitment of the newly appointed members to effect transformative change. Assuring the deployment of their diverse expertise to fulfill the objectives of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, he outlined the board’s determination to revolutionize the civil service, positioning it as a source of national pride.
The newly constituted Federal Civil Service Commission comprises esteemed individuals such as Prof. Tunji Olaopa, Dr. Daudu Jalo, Obong Ededet Eyoma, Shehu Aliyu, Festus Oyebade, Dr. Chamberlain Nweke, Dr. Adamu Hussein, Rufus Godwin, Aminu Nabegu, Hindatu Abdullahi, Odekunle Aduke, and Princess Sarah Sosan.
