President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to resolve the ongoing feud between Rivers State governor, Simi Fubara, and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Minister, Nyesom Wike, have hit a dead end, as disclosed by Tony Okocha, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Rivers State caretaker committee chairman.

In a candid statement to journalists on Thursday, Okocha revealed that Tinubu’s intervention to mend the strained relationship between Fubara and Wike has irreversibly collapsed. “I wasn’t part of it, but whatever that was it, has broken down, and it has been broken irreconcilably,” Okocha asserted.

Previously, Tinubu had made an attempt to broker peace between the two politicians. However, the situation escalated with the demolition of the state House of Assembly Complex and the defection of 27 assembly members loyal to Wike to the APC.

Addressing the recent events, Okocha contended that the four members of the state House of Assembly, led by the court-backed Speaker, Edison Ehie, who convened and approved the budget presented by the governor, “were dwelling on illegality,” emphasizing that their actions would not endure.

Moreover, Okocha boldly claimed that the APC is actively pursuing Wike to defect to the party, expressing confidence that Wike would assume leadership within the APC once he joins.

The escalating rift between Fubara and Wike, coupled with the political maneuverings within the Rivers State Assembly, paints a picture of deep-seated discord, with far-reaching implications for the political landscape in the region.

As the clash intensifies and the parties involved make bold strategic moves, the repercussions are poised to reverberate not only within the Nigerian political sphere but also beyond, potentially reshaping the balance of power in the broader West African region.

The collapse of Tinubu’s peace initiative underscores the complexity of the political landscape in Nigeria, with its intricate web of allegiances, power struggles, and regional dynamics. The ramifications of this rift extend far beyond the confines of Rivers State, serving as a microcosm of the intricate tapestry of Nigerian politics, with implications that resonate on a national and international scale.

The unfolding drama in Rivers State serves as a sobering reminder of the intricate interplay of personalities, power plays, and regional dynamics within Nigerian politics. As the tumultuous saga continues to unfold, it holds the attention of not just local observers but also international onlookers, offering a compelling glimpse into the rich tapestry of Nigerian politics and its enduring impact on the global stage.
