Peoples Democratic Party Chieftain Warns of Potential Nationwide Ripple Effects from Rivers State Crisis

A prominent figure within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has sounded the alarm, cautioning that the escalating political turmoil in Rivers State could have reverberations across Nigeria if left unaddressed.

Speaking on Arise Television, George expressed deep concerns about the situation and urged the PDP leadership to step in and quell the brewing crisis before it spirals out of control.

“Rivers is a pivotal state in terms of electoral significance, and the implications of this crisis could extend far beyond its borders. I appeal to all parties involved in the interest of our nation. This is no time for internal strife; our economic landscape is dire, and the populace is grappling with hardship and frustration,” George stressed.

Expressing dismay at the apparent absence of proactive measures, George questioned the whereabouts and actions of the PDP leadership. He implored the party’s leaders to stand up and decisively address the tumultuous situation unfolding in Rivers State.

The epicenter of the turmoil has coalesced around the Rivers State Assembly in recent days, stemming from a rift between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, who presently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The fissure within the state assembly reflects the deep-seated discord, with factions aligning themselves with their respective leaders, sparking a maelstrom of accusations, impeachment endeavors, and mass defections.

The volatility of the situation in Rivers State has evoked apprehension within and beyond its boundaries, prompting fears of potential spillover effects to other parts of Nigeria. The urgency of the matter underscores the pressing need for swift and resolute action to avert a potential widespread crisis.

In the face of these sobering realities, the call for intervention and reconciliation within the PDP assumes paramount significance, as the fate of Rivers State teeters on the precipice, with the potential to sway the course of Nigeria’s political landscape.
