‘Kadara’: Unveiling The New Yoruba Drama Series Set to Captivate Africa Magic Viewers

A compelling new Yoruba drama series, ‘Kadara’ (which translates to ‘Destiny’), is poised to captivate audiences with its debut on Africa Magic Yoruba, streaming from 13 December 2023 on DStv channel 157 and GOtv channel 2. The series delves into the intertwined themes of societal pressures and the relentless pursuit of quick success, especially among young men.

Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and Channels, West Africa at MultiChoice, provided insight into the series by shedding light on the gripping societal issues it unearths. In her words, “Kadara spotlights the societal pressure on our youth, especially young men, to make it big in a short amount of time. The need to make fast money has led many young people down the wrong path in life, and it’s sometimes impossible to retrace their steps and get back on the right track. The plot takes the viewers into the intricate world of cybercrime and a young man’s quest for redemption, every episode will keep them engrossed.”

This latest addition to Africa Magic’s indigenous series lineup underscores the network’s commitment to showcasing homegrown narratives. Emphasizing this commitment, Tejumola highlighted, “Africa Magic continues to prioritize telling our own stories, as such Kadara is the seventh indigenous Africa Magic series premiering this year. In this month alone, more series will be premiering on AM Hausa and Igbo as well. Africa Magic has so much to thrill our viewers this festive season as they get together with loved ones and spend quality time together.”

‘Kadara’ narrates the journey of Sesan, a young man fixated on amassing wealth, prompting his departure from his hometown, Agbula, to Lagos alongside his best friend, Folarin, in pursuit of quick riches through cybercrime, popularly referred to as ‘Yahoo’. Their initial success propels them into a lavish lifestyle until Sesan commits a grave mistake, leading to a dramatic turn of events that forces him to seek sanctuary in Agbula while his friend, Folarin, forsakes him. This gripping tale unfolds further, revealing Sesan’s evolving mindset as he grapples with the weight of his actions and the internal conflict between his aspirations and the harsh realities he faces.

Scheduled to premiere on 13 December 2023, ‘Kadara’ boasts a diverse ensemble cast, featuring a blend of emerging talents and seasoned Nollywood stars. Fakos Oluwatobi takes on the role of Sesan Akerele, alongside Ibikunle Taiwo as Ahmed Akerele, Oluyemi Caroline as Ojuolape Akerele, Damilola Deremi as Folarin Kashinmawo, Amanda Ugo as Fadesewa Adepegba, and Mudashiru Adegbite as Baale, among others. Viewers can look forward to immersing themselves in the captivating world of ‘Kadara’ every weekday at 6:30 p.m., as the series unfolds its enthralling narrative.

As ‘Kadara’ unfolds on the small screen, it promises to shed light on the complexities of societal pressures and the pursuit of success, inviting viewers to delve deep into a world rife with moral dilemmas and human resilience. The series’ debut is poised to resonate profoundly with audiences, offering a thought-provoking and immersive viewing experience that transcends borders and cultural divides.
