The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Katsina State has taken a significant decision concerning 16 Corps members, out of the 661 who were expected to conclude their service year. The development occurred at the low-key passing out ceremony of the 2023 Batch ‘A’ stream one corps members, where three outstanding individuals were also honored.
During the event, the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Aisha Muhammed, revealed that the service year of 16 Corps members had been extended due to violations of the scheme’s rules and regulations. She explained that the extensions varied, with some members given an additional month, others three weeks, and the rest two weeks. Additionally, three members were recognized for their exceptional performance in Community Development Service (CDS) projects and were honored with certificates signed by Gov. Dikko Radda of Katsina State.
Furthermore, Mrs. Muhammed encouraged the outgoing Corps members to leverage the skills acquired through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, emphasizing the importance of staying proactive and making positive impacts in their respective communities.
The Coordinator expressed gratitude to the state government for its unwavering support, as well as to traditional rulers, security agents, and the local populace for ensuring the safety and well-being of the Corps members throughout their service year. She commended the Corps members for their patriotic contributions to the development of their host communities and noted the absence of any adverse reports from their Places of Primary Assignments (PPAs).
The NYSC Coordinator’s remarks underscore the significance of the Corps members’ experiences during their service year and the potential positive influence they can exert in their communities, aligning with the NYSC’s broader mission of fostering national unity and development.
As the NYSC continues to play a pivotal role in shaping young Nigerians into active agents of positive change, the recent extension decision and recognition of exceptional performance serve as noteworthy examples of the organization’s commitment to upholding standards and rewarding excellence. It is a testament to the ongoing relevance of the NYSC in nurturing a community of civic-minded and industrious young leaders across Nigeria.
