Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Dismisses Nationwide Strike Notice

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has unequivocally dismissed the purported notice of a nationwide strike scheduled for Monday. This announcement comes in the wake of the labour union’s condemnation of the World Bank’s suggestion to the Nigerian government to raise the price of petrol to N175 per liter.

The supposed statement, bearing the signatures of NLC’s General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja, and TUC’s Secretary General, Nuhu Toro, had circulated, fueling speculations of an imminent nationwide strike.

However, Benson Upah, the Head of Information and Public Affairs at NLC, dispelled the looming specter of industrial action in a statement released on Sunday in Abuja. He categorically refuted the authenticity of the strike notice, labeling it as fake news. “We want to reassure Nigerians that this notice did not emanate from us, and neither do we have any intention of initiating any strike action at this time,” Upah affirmed.

In unequivocal terms, Upah emphasized that concerned Nigerians should disregard the notice and treat it as fake. Such reassurance aims to dispel any apprehensions stemming from the dissemination of misinformation.

The swift rebuttal by the NLC serves to allay fears and quell uncertainties, underscoring the organization’s commitment to maintaining industrial harmony while thwarting the dissemination of spurious information.

By discrediting the false notice and affirming their dedication to the welfare of Nigerian workers, the NLC seeks to restore calm amidst the swirling currents of speculation and apprehension.

As the nation navigates through dynamic socio-economic landscapes, the vigilance and prompt response exhibited by the NLC stand as bulwarks against the disruptive forces of misinformation, fostering an environment of stability and informed decision-making.

This episode stands as a testament to the NLC’s unwavering resolve to uphold the interests of Nigerian workers, ensuring that the machinery of industrial relations operates smoothly, uninterrupted by the discordant notes of falsehood and uncertainty.

In finality, the NLC’s emphatic repudiation of the purported strike notice stands as a resolute affirmation of their commitment to fostering an environment of truth, transparency, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of Nigerian workers.
