The Labour Party (LP) has set its sights on clinching the governorship seat in the upcoming Edo 2024 election, as it undergoes a strategic repositioning to shore up its political prowess. This bold declaration was made by Mr. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, in a statement released from Abuja.
In a resolute move to fortify its standing, the party in Edo has initiated a comprehensive capacity building program targeted at strengthening and revitalizing the party structure from the grassroots level. Integral to this initiative is the training of wards and local government executives, with the ultimate aim of paving the way for a victorious electoral campaign.
Speaking at the training, the National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr. Julius Abure, conveyed his unwavering optimism, emphasizing the party’s pivotal role in rescuing both the state of Edo and the nation from the clutches of subpar governance.
Elucidating on the essence of the capacity building program, Abure asserted, “The intention of the program is to build the capacity of our local governments and ward executives in terms of their expected roles during an election. It is a crucial step towards preparing them for the Edo 2024 governorship election.”
Emphasizing the party’s grassroots-centric approach, Abure underscored, “Labour party believes that elections are won and lost at the ward or local governments level, depending on the action and inaction of members.”
Furthermore, he articulated the paramount importance of empowering local government and ward officers through the trainer-workshop, stressing that their role extends to replicating the training in their respective local governments and wards.
Positioning the Labour Party as a beacon of hope, Abure asserted, “LP firmly believes that it is the only party equipped to address the socio-economic challenges plaguing the state and the nation at large.”
He passionately addressed the prevalent issues, stating, “The high level of infrastructure decay, poverty, hunger, and unemployment is unimaginable, and the Labour Party espouses the ideology to recalibrate the trajectory and propel the country towards greatness.”
Looking ahead to the forthcoming election, Abure expounded, “Edo is counting on our party to take the necessary steps by presenting a candidate who can effectively champion their cause. Our primary objective in Edo today is centered on securing victory through the selection of a candidate with the capacity to succeed.”
In a bid to amplify its reach, the party plans to replicate the same training across the other senatorial districts, cementing its focus on emerging triumphant in the 2024 election.
