The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas, has been honored with the chieftaincy title of Agba-Akin of Ise by the Orinjale of Ise Ekiti, Oba Ayodele Ajayi, in Ekiti State. This prestigious conferment took place alongside the installation of the Senate spokesperson, Yemi Adaramodu, as Omo-Akin.
Dr. Abbas, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Dr. Namdi Chanbani, reiterated the National Assembly’s dedication to revisiting the bill on the constitutional roles of traditional rulers in Nigeria. Emphasizing the potential impact of such constitutional responsibilities, Mr. Abbas, who also holds the title of Iya of Zazzau Emirate, highlighted the significance of traditional rulers in fostering political and economic development, as well as social cohesion. He underscored their critical roles in preserving culture, resolving conflicts, and promoting national integration.
In his address, the Arinjale of Ise-Ekiti emphasized that the conferment of chieftaincy titles on distinguished Nigerians aims to foster peace and unity within the country. The monarch urged the newly installed chiefs to consistently strive for the progress of Nigeria and humanity.
Further adding to the significance of the occasion, Rufus Ojuawo, the representative of Ekiti South Federal constituency 1 and a native of the town, expressed that the installation of the Speaker symbolizes the unity and affection the Yoruba people have for other ethnic groups in Nigeria. Mr. Ojuawo called for all Nigerians to embrace a lifestyle of love, peace, and harmony.
