The All Progressives Congress (APC) has categorically denied the existence of any reconciliation agreement with the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) for the Kano Governorship Election. Abdullahi Abbas, the state APC Chairman, directly addressed this issue in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday.
Mr. Abbas dismissed the rumors of NNPP reaching out to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in their favor, emphasizing that neither the president nor any party leader had engaged in such discussions. He underscored President Tinubu’s commitment to democracy and the rule of law, asserting that he would not align with any endeavor to subvert justice or endorse individuals who have manipulated the electoral process.
Emphasizing the party’s stance, Mr. Abbas declared the APC’s lack of awareness regarding any such arrangements and declared their unwavering determination to pursue their case at the Supreme Court to a conclusive end. He expressed confidence in the party’s potential triumphant outcome at the Apex Court, citing the compelling evidence presented at both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court, which resulted in their victory.
Addressing the potential for a crisis post the Supreme Court judgment, Abbas reassured that there was no tension in Kano. He conveyed that the people of the state were content with the recent developments stemming from the tribunal and Appeal Court judgments and were eagerly anticipating the Supreme Court’s endorsement of the concurrent rulings.
“Kano is very peaceful, and the people are conducting their normal businesses despite efforts by the NNPP to provoke and incite youth to create unnecessary political crisis in the state,” he stated.
The Kano APC chairman further pledged the party’s commitment to fostering harmonious and peaceful relationships with ethnic groups and nationalities in the state, irrespective of any provocations. He urged party supporters and Nigerians at large to disregard propaganda, resist provocation, and maintain calm.
