Kampala, Uganda — The Uganda Police Force bid a fond farewell to 233 officers, ranging from the rank of Senior Commissioner of Police to Police Constable, as they reached the mandatory retirement age of 60. The colorful retirement ceremony took place at the Police Headquarters Naguru, marking the end of an era for these dedicated individuals.
Addressing the retiring officers, Deputy Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi extended heartfelt congratulations on their remarkable careers. He emphasized that retirement signifies a new phase in life and urged the retirees to integrate into society while maintaining the discipline they exemplified during their tenure.
“Leaving service is not the end, but rather a transition. Your journey has been exemplary, and now it’s time to become valuable members of society. Your contributions to the Uganda Police Force have been commendable, and we take pride in your achievements. Please, carry forward the same spirit of discipline,” articulated the DIGP.
In a poignant moment, the DIGP also emphasized the retiring officers’ potential to positively impact society outside the force, urging them to shun alcoholism and resist being lured into criminal activities by malevolent forces. He encouraged the officers to seek roles that would continue to showcase their relevance, serving as shining examples of retired police ambassadors. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of effective financial management and advised the retirees to actively engage in government programs designed to foster wealth creation.
