The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, has expressed his readiness to embrace peace in light of the recent face-off with Governor Sim Fubara. However, Wike made it clear that he refuses to be pulled down amid his pursuit of peace.

Speaking at his residence in Port Harcourt during a gathering with traditional rulers of Ogbaland on his 56th birthday, Wike affirmed, “No politician will sit idly by and allow themselves to be dragged down. My team and I are open to peace, but we will not allow ourselves to be dragged down. If we are pulled down, who will protect our people? Who will advocate for our interests?”

The conflict between Wike and Fubara has led to discord within the state legislature, resulting in 27 lawmakers defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The deepening crisis saw the state House of Assembly engulfed in flames, and Fubara’s administration subsequently demolished the complex.

Wike’s declaration marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, signifying a potential shift towards reconciliation and stability. As the situation continues to evolve, the pursuit of peace takes center stage, offering a glimmer of hope amidst the tumultuous landscape of Nigerian politics.
