The Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has vehemently denied allegations of orchestrating a clandestine meeting with President Bola Tinubu and party leaders to sway the outcome of the Supreme Court appeal filed by the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP).

This development comes in the wake of two months of contention following the affirmation of Nasir Gawuna, the APC candidate, as the winner of the hotly contested March 18 governorship election, leading Governor Abba Yusuf and the NNPP to seek redress at the Supreme Court.

The three-member panel of the Appeal Court, led by Justice M. A. Adumeh, ruled that Yusuf was not in the membership register of his political party, citing a provision of the electoral act which mandates parties to have the names of their registered members in both hard and soft copies.

In response to the viral report, Kano APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, has refuted the claims, labeling them as the product of a vivid imagination. In a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday, Abbas dispelled the rumors, stating, “There is nowhere such a meeting was held with either Mr. President or any leader of the party. President Bola Tinubu is a Democrat and strongly believes in the rule of law and the right thing to be done; therefore, he will not be part of any arrangement or reconciliation to subvert justice and support people who have stolen votes or breached the electoral act to emerge as leaders.”

Furthermore, Abbas reiterated that the party was oblivious to such an arrangement, affirming their commitment to pursuing their case at the Supreme Court until a logical conclusion is reached. He also emphasized that there is no tension in Kano, and the people are content with the outcomes of both the tribunal and the appeal court judgments.

Assuring the maintenance of harmonious and peaceful relationships with ethnic groups and nationalities in the state, Abbas emphasized the party’s commitment to this cause despite occasional provocations from the governing party.
