A recent court proceeding at the Upper Area Court in Kubwa, FCT, unveiled a contentious demand by businessman Nasiru Yunusa, who stated his requirement of N1 million from his wife, Aisha Hamisu, in exchange for granting her a divorce.
Yunusa, who tied the knot with Hamisu in accordance with Islamic law in 2021 and shares a 13-month-old daughter with her, stands at odds with his wife’s plea for the dissolution of their marriage. Hamisu cited lack of care and respect as grounds for seeking separation.
According to Hamisu, Yunusa abruptly relocated her belongings from their shared abode to her father’s residence on April 19, 2022. In response, Yunusa expressed his willingness for Hamisu to return but stipulated that he would only acquiesce to a divorce if she agreed to compensate him.
Yunusa claimed to have disbursed N1 million on various expenses, including legal fees for ongoing court proceedings, implying his readiness to substantiate the expenditure. However, Hamisu repudiated this assertion, declaring her disaffection for Yunusa and her inability to cohabit with him. She contested Yunusa’s financial claims, divulging that she had been residing with her parents for two and a half years subsequent to the relocation of her possessions to their doorstep. Furthermore, she disclosed that she bore their daughter through a Cesarean section at Kubwa General Hospital without any financial support from Yunusa. She expressed her readiness to return the dowry of N50,000 solely to him.
The case has been adjourned until January 8 for further proceedings, presided over by Judge Mohammed Wakili.
