Elder Statesman Edwin Clark Condemns One-Sided Resolutions in Rivers State Political Crisis

Ijaw leader Edwin Clark has expressed strong disapproval of the recent eight-point resolution aimed at resolving the political crisis in Rivers State, labeling it as biased and unacceptable. President Bola Tinubu and other key stakeholders convened with Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, and his immediate predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to address the ongoing face-off between the two political heavyweights.

The resolutions, which emerged from the meeting, included the immediate withdrawal of all legal actions initiated by the state governor against Wike and his team, as well as a mandate for state lawmakers aligned with Wike to cease all impeachment proceedings against Fubara.

In response to the developments, Clark, an esteemed elder statesman, voiced his concerns to journalists on Tuesday, pointing out flaws in the resolutions. He indicated that the terms of the purported settlement appeared to hand over political leadership in the state to Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.

Clark asserted that the resolution underscored Tinubu’s expression of gratitude to the FCT minister for delivering Rivers State to him during the last presidential elections. He adamantly stated, “We will resist any attempt, subtle, subterranean, covert, overt, to make an elected Ijaw son, Siminialayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, a servant, a stooge to Nyesome Wike.”

He further pledged to utilize all available constitutional and legal means to combat what he termed as “oppression,” including resorting to the courts and urged aggrieved youths to remain calm amid the unfolding situation.

The implied favoritism displayed towards Wike in the resolution has prompted strong opposition from Clark and the Ijaw community, signaling potential legal battles on the horizon in the quest to address the ongoing political imbroglio in Rivers State.
