As the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) approaches, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has sounded a warning to prospective candidates. They have been strongly advised to steer clear of counterfeit websites that falsely assert connections with WAEC while offering online classes for exam preparation.
In a public statement, Moyosola Adesina, the Acting Head of Public Affairs for WAEC Nigeria, raised an alarm against a specific website claiming to provide online classes for WASSCE candidates. Adesina emphasized that WAEC has absolutely no ties with this website and cautioned that it might be a potential spam or phishing platform designed to illicitly collect personal information.
“The attention of the West African Examinations Council has been drawn to a website purporting to offer online classes for prospective WASSCE candidates. We want to state that the Nigeria National Office of the West African Examinations Council has no affiliation or connection with the site,” the statement read.
“WAEC has only one official e-learning portal for candidates seeking instructions and recommendations on approaching and tackling examination questions. Prospective candidates are encouraged to visit the WAEC e-learning portal at https://www.waeconline.org.ng/e-Learning for accurate and reliable information.”
WAEC emphasized its unwavering commitment to providing authentic information and urged candidates to only engage with its legitimate e-learning portal. Furthermore, WAEC highlighted its recent advancements, including the creation of a digital certificate, an interactive portal for student engagement, and the introduction of ‘WAEC Verify.’
Additionally, WAEC made mention of ‘WAECKonnect’, a web-based electronic platform designed to facilitate seamless communication between the Council and candidates before, during, and after examinations. This innovative platform allows candidates to access vital information and notifications directly from the Council and to interact with their peers.
The examination body reiterated its dedication to providing excellent service to Nigerian students and emphasized the paramount importance of obtaining information solely from their recognized portals, ensuring the benefit and security of candidates.
