The bustling metropolis of Tatu City, nestled in Kenya, has announced a significant surge in its workforce, welcoming over 100 new hires in 2023. Emanating from both local and international recruitment drives, this substantial boost comes as Tatu City experiences an unprecedented influx of businesses and residents from Kenya and beyond. The city’s burgeoning ecosystem now accommodates over 78 enterprises, offering employment opportunities to 15,000 individuals, with projections for thousands more job openings in 2024.
The educational landscape is also flourishing within Tatu City, as it caters to a diverse student body of over 4,500 pupils and students across renowned institutions such as Crawford International School and Nova Pioneer Primary and Secondary.
Preston Mendenhall, Country Head, Kenya, at Rendeavour, the astute steward behind Tatu City’s development, remarked, “Tatu City has reached an important inflection point. Our SEZ status, coupled with top-notch infrastructure and a safe, secure, and predictable environment, is luring investors globally, fostering heightened demand for our residential, educational, and retail offerings.”
The city’s remarkable expansion extends to its client portfolio, exemplified by CCI International’s establishment of a 5,000-seat call center at the Eneo building in Tatu Central. Concurrently, medical device manufacturer Zhende is earmarking its presence by constructing East Africa’s largest medical production facility within the city, set to employ 7,000 Kenyans. Additionally, Kenya Wine Agencies Ltd (KWAL), a subsidiary of Dutch brewing titan Heineken, has erected a state-of-the-art drinks manufacturing facility within Tatu City, further fueling its economic ascension.
Commenting on the strategic appeal of Tatu City, Rishi Jatania, Managing Director, CCI Kenya, lauded, “Tatu City provides an attractive and low-risk environment underpinned with first-class infrastructure, which is conducive for both our business and our people. It was a logical choice for the next phase of our Africa expansion.”
Tatu City’s infrastructural marvel encompasses over 50 km of asphalt roads, a robust power network, multiple water sources, an on-site water treatment plant, and an extensive network of fiber optic cables. Notably, in tandem with the burgeoning residential communities at Kijani Ridge and Unity Homes, Tatu City has invested in expansive recreational spaces and parks, necessitating the recruitment of additional staff for landscaping and security, drawn from neighboring communities.
In line with its commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and enriching the local community, Tatu City is fervently investing in a NITA-certified Tatu City Training Academy. This noble institution extends free training to local youth, endowing them with industry-relevant skills, effectively bridging the divide between education and employment. The Tatu City Training Academy has already positively impacted the lives of over 500 young individuals, with an impressive 80 percent successfully securing employment within Tatu City, underscoring the city’s dedication to nurturing local talent and propelling economic prosperity.
