Nigeria Plans Committee to Select New Ambassadors

The Nigerian government is gearing up to establish a new committee tasked with the vital responsibility of selecting a fresh cohort of ambassadors to fill the shoes of those who have been summoned back to the homeland.

Alkasim Abdulkadir, the Special Assistant to the Foreign Affairs Minister, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar on Media and Communications Strategy, revealed this significant development in an exclusive interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja. Abdulkadir emphasized the essentiality of extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders in the process of appointing the new ambassadors.

It has been clarified by the minister’s aide that despite prior speculation over financial constraints impeding their return, all recalled ambassadors have indeed made their way back to the country. This dispels any lingering misconceptions surrounding the matter.

The decision to recall all the country’s ambassadors, both from the career and non-career strata, was formally made by President Bola Tinubu on September 2. They were given a deadline to return to Nigeria by October 31, 2023.

Nigeria currently operates no less than 300 foreign missions across the globe. Ajuri Ngelale, spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, iterated that this action was a result of a thorough evaluation of the existing state of affairs at Nigerian consulates, offices, and embassies worldwide. Ngelale emphasized that this move is aligned with the President’s Renewed Hope agenda and underscores his unwavering commitment to fostering world-class efficiency and service quality, both on the global stage and within the nation.
