Nigerian troops have carried out significant operations, resulting in the elimination of 40 terrorists and the apprehension of 259 others, alongside criminals across the country. The Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, revealed this remarkable feat during a briefing with journalists in Abuja.
The armed forces orchestrated synchronized strikes, deploying both ground and air forces to root out terrorist enclaves and hideouts. This offensive posture led to the neutralization of over 40 terrorists and the apprehension of 191 individuals. Additionally, the troops successfully recovered 72 assorted weapons, 338 assorted ammunitions, and rescued 80 kidnapped hostages during the week. Notable recoveries included 165 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, one PKM barrel, among other arms and ammunitions.
In the North East, the troops of Operation Hadin Kai neutralized seven terrorists, arrested eight, and rescued 19 kidnapped hostages. Meanwhile, in the North Central, the troops of Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stoke neutralized four terrorists, arrested 16, and rescued eight kidnapped hostages while recovering arms and ammunition.
The North West operations conducted by troops of Operations Hadarin Daji and Whirl Punch resulted in the neutralization of nine terrorists, the arrest of six others, and the rescue of 15 kidnapped hostages, alongside the recovery of weaponry. Furthermore, the air component of Hadarin Daji carried out close air support operations, targeting the enclaves of terrorist leaders, resulting in the neutralization of several terrorists and the destruction of their structures and logistics.
Operation Whirl Punch’s air component also conducted successful air interdictions on withdrawing terrorists, neutralizing key leadership and providing close support and evacuation for distressed troops.
The successful operations signal a turning point in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism and criminal activities, demonstrating the armed forces’ unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the country and its citizens.
