In a bid to revamp Nigeria’s aviation sector, President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of new directors for five key agencies under the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development. This bold move comes on the heels of the removal of all the ministry’s directors, signaling a push for a fresh trajectory in the country’s aviation landscape.
The Ministry’s head of press and public affairs, Odutayo Oluseyi, announced the new appointments in Abuja, underscoring the government’s commitment to ushering in a new era of efficiency and excellence in air travel.
The sweeping changes in leadership occurred following the termination of the previous directors/CEOs of agencies at the Aviation ministry. President Tinubu cited the high cost of underperformance in the sector as a primary reason for the shake-up. His call for the establishment of world-class policy design, implementation, and regulatory frameworks reflects a strong resolve to align the sector with his Renewed Hope Agenda.
The affected agencies include the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and Nigeria Safety and Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
The appointment of new directors, coupled with the establishment of a new directorate called “Cargo Services” within FAAN, is poised to address critical issues and drive positive change in the aviation industry. Notably, the new director of “Cargo Services” is set to be appointed shortly.
