Enyimba, a top football club in Nigeria, has been slapped with a N2m fine by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for a breach of security protocols during their recent match against Rangers. The NPFL found that Enyimba’s failure to provide adequate security measures allowed unauthorized individuals to access the restricted area of match officials’ dressing room.
In addition to the security lapse, Enyimba officials were implicated in the intimidation and harassment of referees during the game. As a result, Okey Nwabeke, an official representing the club, has been suspended from all NPFL activities for the next three match weeks due to his involvement in inciting and unsporting conduct.
The NPFL has issued a stern warning to Enyimba, cautioning that any repeat of such misconduct by the club or its officials could result in even more severe penalties in the future.
Enyimba has a window of 48 hours from the date of the notice to challenge the sanctions imposed by the NPFL.
This development not only highlights the importance of upholding security standards and ethical conduct in sports but also serves as a reminder to all football clubs and officials of the repercussions of failing to comply with the regulations set forth by football governing bodies.
