The impactful act of generosity unfolded as Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, disbursed N25 million to 250 elderly individuals across the 25 Local Government Areas of Delta State. The event, held at the Government House in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, saw the First Lady’s Renewed Hope Initiative under the Elderly Support Scheme, aim to provide economic empowerment, clothing materials, and free medical checkups to the fortunate recipients.
Represented by Mrs. Tobore Oborevwori, the Wife of the Delta State governor, Oluremi Tinubu highlighted the significance of the inaugural edition of the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme, themed “Better Days Ahead.” This poignant initiative underscores a commitment to the well-being of elderly citizens and signifies a substantial stride towards an all-inclusive and empathetic society.
Tinubu elucidated, “The scheme is designed to offer aid to 250 vulnerable elderly citizens aged 65 and above across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association. The selected beneficiaries are set to receive a sum of N100,000 each, alleviating their economic burdens during the festive season.
Emphasizing the significance of prioritizing the elderly during the festive period, Tinubu expressed gratitude to all stakeholders who supported the event with free medical screenings and the distribution of sundry items to the beneficiaries.
In her address, Oborevwori, representing Mrs. Tinubu, conveyed her delight at the cash presentation, citing its timely and commendable nature. She additionally acknowledged the challenging economic landscape and reiterated the substantial impact of the scheme, particularly in light of the financial strains faced by the elderly.
