The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has taken swift action by suspending Plateau United’s Jimmy Ambrose and Charles Henlong, along with the team manager, Iliya Abel, for three weeks. This decisive move comes as a response to their unsporting behavior on the field.
In addition to the suspensions, Plateau United has been fined N1 million for failing to ensure the proper conduct of their players and officials. This failure resulted in the harassment and intimidation of the referee following their match against Kwara United in the 15th round of fixtures.
Furthermore, Plateau United has been cautioned that any repetition of such unacceptable conduct could lead to even harsher penalties. The club has a 48-hour window from the date of the notice to appeal these sanctions.
The NPFL’s strong stance serves as a reminder of the league’s commitment to upholding fair play and sportsmanship. It sends a clear message that misconduct will not be tolerated, and that all individuals and teams are expected to adhere to high standards of behavior on and off the field.
