Ogun State’s Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, has made a triumphant return to Nigeria after spending approximately six months in the United Kingdom. He arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Friday night to a warm reception by his running mate, Adekunle Akinlade, Tola Banjo, and other PDP leaders in Ogun State.
Adebutu’s media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, confirmed his principal’s return to the country. While Adebutu’s return signifies a significant development in the political landscape, the All Progressives Congress (APC) had previously accused him of evading the law in relation to alleged vote-buying during the March 18 governorship election in the state.
Tunde Oladunjoye, the APC State Publicity Secretary, reiterated these allegations and challenged Adebutu to return and address them. He stated, “He is afraid of his shadow. We also know too well that he is running away from being arraigned alongside other members of his party. If he claims otherwise, the best way to prove us wrong is to buy a ticket and board the next available flight home,” in an interview with The
In response, Adebutu had earlier explained that he remained in the UK for medical treatment following the general elections due to threats to his life. His return has sparked anticipation regarding his next steps and potential confrontation with the accusations leveled against him.
The homecoming of Ladi Adebutu marks a pivotal moment in Ogun State’s political sphere, igniting discussions and expectations among the populace. His actions and statements will undoubtedly shape the trajectory of the upcoming political developments in the region.
