As the festive season approaches, the Abia State Police Command has taken proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of residents. The deployment of police personnel across the state, particularly at worship centers and event venues, aims to create a visible and reassuring presence.
In an official statement released by ASP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, the Abia State Police Command outlined a comprehensive operational strategy. This includes targeted raids on high-risk areas and unfinished structures, as well as intensified stop-and-search operations, vehicular and foot patrols, and coordinated efforts with other security agencies in the state.
Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, reiterated the ban on the sale and use of fireworks, commonly referred to as knockouts, citing potential threats to public peace and security. The use of firecrackers during the harmattan season was highlighted as particularly concerning, with the potential to cause distractions and create opportunities for criminal activities and fire incidents.
By prioritizing the safety of citizens and leveraging collaborative efforts to maintain public order, the Abia State Police Command aims to foster a secure environment for residents to celebrate the holidays without compromising their well-being.
