Plateau State House of Assembly Members-Elect Receive Certificates of Return

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) made a significant move on Saturday by issuing certificates of return to 16 members-elect for the Plateau State House of Assembly. This came after the Court of Appeal nullified the election of the initially declared winners. Among the 16 members-elect, 15 belonged to the All Progressives Congress (APC), while one was from the Labour Party.

Dr. Oliver Agundu, Plateau INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, emphasized that the issuance of the certificates aligned with the directives of the Appeal Court, which recognized the lawmakers as the rightful winners of the elections. The REC congratulated the lawmakers-elect and extended his well wishes as they prepared to serve the state.

Chief Rufus Bature, APC State Chairman, lauded the Appeal Court’s decision, stating that it fortified the electoral process and bolstered Nigeria’s democracy. He also urged the lawmakers to demonstrate magnanimity in victory and to prioritize the interests of the entire state over partisan considerations.

Mr. Sunday Naah, the Member-elect for Jos North West, acknowledged the high hopes of the citizens and pledged to contribute to the growth of his constituency and the state as a whole. He reassured his constituents of his commitment to formulating impactful legislation aimed at alleviating their challenges.

The events surrounding the issuance of the certificates of return underscore the dynamism and intricacies of Nigeria’s electoral landscape, reflective of the nation’s ongoing democratic journey. As the lawmakers gear up to assume their roles, their actions and decisions will undoubtedly shape the future trajectory of Plateau State.
