Ogun State Police Chief Condemns Shooting, Visits Injured Nollywood Actor Azeez Ijaduade in Hospital

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, strongly denounced the shooting of a prominent Nollywood actor by a police officer in the state during a recent visit to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital. The actor, Azeez Ijaduade, had been rushed to the hospital after being mistakenly shot by a trigger-happy cop attached to a Chinese expatriate.

Responding to the incident, the police chief, Alamutu, expressed his dismay and emphasized that the officer responsible for the shooting is already facing disciplinary action. In an interview with journalists, Alamutu disclosed that the officer had fired a bullet into the air to disperse a group of thugs who were attempting to attack the person he was protecting.

Alamutu asserted that while there are circumstances where officers may need to use their firearms to control unruly crowds, the shooting of Ijaduade was unjustified and regrettable. He emphasized that the officer had behaved unprofessionally and would be held accountable for his actions.

The police commissioner also reassured the public that Ijaduade was in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery. “From what I have seen so far, he’s recuperating, only that he needs to be observed for some time to ensure that no vital part of his body is affected. From the way I see him, I believe none is affected. But that can only be certified by the medical experts,” Alamutu stated.

The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the appropriate use of force by law enforcement officers. The swift response and condemnation by Commissioner Abiodun Alamutu demonstrate the commitment of the Ogun State Police to address such unfortunate events and ensure the safety of the public.

The visit of the police chief to the hospital not only highlights the gravity of the situation but also signals a swift and transparent response by the authorities. Such actions are crucial in maintaining public trust and ensuring accountability within law enforcement agencies. As Azeez Ijaduade continues his recovery, this incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of responsible firearm use and the ongoing efforts to uphold the safety and well-being of all individuals.
