The tranquility of Plateau State, Nigeria, has been shattered by a harrowing massacre, leaving at least 50 innocent villagers dead. Governor Caleb Mutfwang revealed the devastating news, expressing deep concern over the heart-wrenching attacks that have ravaged communities in Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas. Speaking at a luncheon hosted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Governor Mutfwang vowed to take decisive actions to combat the escalating insecurity.

“From intelligence reports available to me, at least 50 persons have been killed in Mangu and Bokkos in the last 48 hours. This is unacceptable. Enough is enough. These stupid, senseless and unprovoked acts must stop,” Governor Mutfwang declared with palpable anguish.

The governor staunchly pledged unwavering resolve in the face of adversity, emphasizing the indomitable spirit of the people of Plateau. He expressed gratitude to the valiant troops of Operation Safe Haven, acknowledging their relentless efforts in safeguarding the state. Governor Mutfwang assured steadfast support for the military and other security forces to fortify the defense of the state and thwart the dastardly actions of criminals taking advantage of the chaos.

“We will prevent some hoodlums, who usually hide under the attacks, to perpetrate other crimes, such as cattle rustling, armed robbery, kidnapping for ransom and other crimes. We will also strengthen other security agencies to complement the efforts of the military in tackling insecurity in the state,” Governor Mutfwang affirmed, emphasizing the imperative need for a comprehensive security strategy.

Addressing the alarming situation, Commander of OPSH, Maj.-Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar, underscored the swift response of the troops to the distress calls from various locations. He lamented the toll taken on their personnel, with some sustaining injuries in the line of duty, yet remained resolute in their mission to eradicate criminal activities in Plateau.

“In the last 48 hours, we have responded to 36 distress calls from different locations, simultaneously. As we speak, some of our men are in hospital due to the injuries sustained in attacks. But we are committed to ensuring that we put a stop to all criminal activities in Plateau,” affirmed Maj.-Gen. Abubakar, illustrating the unwavering dedication of the security forces.

The bloodshed in Plateau State serves as a stark reminder of the pervasive threat of insecurity, demanding urgent and concerted efforts to restore peace and protect the lives of the citizens.
