In a remarkable display of bravery and commitment to restoring peace, Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has warmly welcomed sixty-six individuals rescued by the troops of the Joint Task Force North West ‘Operation Hadarin Daji’, OPHD, of the Nigerian Army.
Expressing admiration for the efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security operatives, Governor Aliyu hailed their dedication to preserving tranquility within the state. He emphasized the significance of the recent rescue, highlighting the collective triumph over the scourge of kidnapping that has plagued various communities in Isah local government area.
Governor Aliyu revealed that the operations resulted in the liberation of 52 individuals on Thursday, December 22, 2023, followed by the rescue of an additional 14 on the subsequent Saturday, totaling to 66 individuals freed from captivity. Moreover, underscoring the state’s commitment to fortifying the security apparatus, Aliyu emphasized the recent donation of eighty (80) vehicles to all security agencies to bolster their operational capabilities across the state.
Impassioned by the unwavering resolve to safeguard lives and property, Governor Aliyu urged citizens to actively collaborate with security agencies by sharing valuable information critical to the state’s overall security infrastructure.
Upon presenting the rescued individuals to the governor, the Garrison Commander 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Alex Tawasimi, underscored the ongoing efforts to combat insurgent activities. He lauded the governor for his steadfast support, affirming the Nigerian Army’s continuous dedication to ensuring lasting peace in Sokoto State and its environs.
The rescued victims, comprising 14 males, 32 females, and 6 children, have undergone comprehensive medical assessments and debrief sessions. Subsequently, they have been entrusted to the state government’s care for the necessary steps to reunite them with their families, marking a significant milestone in their profound journey to freedom.
